    MY PATH
SKILLFUL SAILORS ARE NOT MADE BY SMOOTH SEAS.

Human beings’ skills improve by struggles. In a monotonous life, we cannot expect people’s talents to emerge. Humans have developed their abilities through difficulties since prehistory. Nowadays, in everywhere experts recommend “get out of our comfort zone.” The comfort area has the same meaning as the smooth sea in the proverb. When we get out of our comfort zone and challenge ourselves, we can gain which skills we desire.

This proverb reminded me of the biggest challenge of my life. It was the most difficult, but most educative experience of all my life. What was it? “Moving to USA”, yes, I should have been crazy. We had everything we want; a beautiful home, good jobs, cars, our friends, and our families. All my memories were in Istanbul. Moreover, I was six months pregnant. My husband wanted to improve his language skills , and to find a good job  in the USA at a big technology company. I didn’t want to move to the USA; however I didn’t want to obstacle him. As a result, our adventures became to start. When we came to New Jersey in 2015, my daughter was going to be born in two months. I can say that everything here was different from Turkey; hospitals especially emergency rooms, insurance processes, traffic rules, the culture of laundry, human relationships, and measuring units such as kg-Ibs, cm-inch, and km-mile. There were so many things I had to learn. Also, we had to cope with a lot of challenges such as the green card process, speaking and understanding of English, finding a good job, and interviews. America was our wavy sea, and we have grown up step by step with each challenge.
Now, I am happy with my challenge. I live in CA, which is the best state to live in the USA. I wouldn’t believe it even if I have seen in my dream. After My husband  got a master’s degree from Wilmington University, started to work at a big company as a senior software developer. My daughter grows up in the USA, has a chance to go to one of the best schools all over the world. Also, I am a student at Orange Coast College; hereby, I improve my English skills day by day. I have learned a lot of things in the USA. I have seen many states, cities, and beautiful places in the USA. I have made new friends from different cultures. What makes me feel rich more than anything, was gaining experiences. Yes, still I am in the wavy sea. Our journey continues. So, I must cope with too many things.  I know, my path is not easy, but as the English band Coldplay says , “I want something just like this.”

  2. This one makes me remember another proverb "No pain no gain". We won't know what will happen; however, let's improve ourselves with different challenges which help us gain multiple skills.
