Halloween was so exciting for us because it was my daughter's
first Halloween. We don't celebrate Halloween in Turkey, but nowadays, in
Istanbul, my friends begin to celebrate Halloween. We learned everything about
Halloween, owing to my daughter, Betul. Preparations had started one month
before Halloween. Everything, every mall, every street reminded that Halloween
was coming soon. Early October, my friends and I participated with our children
Halloween event for children in Lake Forest. Betul caught to chance to design
her pumpkin. We took a lot of photos with princesses, heroes, and harry
potter:). At the mid of October, my daughter and I went to Tanaka Farms to pick
up a pumpkin with her school. It was a beautiful day. The children were so
excited. Eventually, Halloween came, Betul dressed up. She was a little Elsa.
In the morning, she visited houses with her teacher on a school trip. She
collected a lot of candies and small gifts. After 5 pm, we began to visit
neighbors with Betul's best friends. End of the day, Betul's basket filled with
full of candies and little surprises. Halloween was so fun.
Second, Thanksgiving
is very precious. Today I participated in Betul's first thanksgiving event and
meal at her school. Students sang about Thanksgiving. They seemed so cute.
Moreover, we invited our close friends to our home for Thanksgiving. I am a
little excited because I have never cooked a turkey. There will be sixteen
people on Thursday. I love sharing because I know that Sharing is stronger form
everything.
Last but not least, Christmas is so precious not only for
Christians but also for Muslims. We don't celebrate like Christians, but we
love and believe Jesus. Jesus, Holy Mary, and of course, God (Allah) are holy
for us. There is a surah of Mary (Meryem) in the Quran. Mary (Meryem) is the
only surah given the name of a woman in the Qur'an. It means that Holy Mary is
precious for Allah. Because I love Holy Mary, my daughter's name is Mary Betul.
Anyway, I love every good thing. Remembering, wishing each other best wishes,
visiting the elders, giving gifts are very worthful things. Our religious holidays
are similar to Christmas. We celebrate to show thanks to God. In religious
holidays "eid Ramadan and eid-al Adha " Muslims help to low-income people; we share our money and food, give
each other gifts, and visit older people. These days are essential to protect
culture and family ties. Christmas is coming soon; therefore, I am excited.
Nowadays, happiness and goodness will increase.
For me, the best time to enjoy holidays is childhood, which we can share our nice time with parents and "real" friends. I hope your daughter will have great memories about her childhood ^^
